I've been shooting my 3rd gen Glock 17 for about 19 years and never cared for the ergonomics, trigger feel, etc... but it has been reliable and eats all kinds of ammo (Russian steel cased, to whatever boutique JHP's on the market). I've tried all kinds of aftermarket mods to it, but it basically is now just an aftermarket slide with RMR cut (for a RMR), suppressor height sights, all OEM-parts with only a few exceptions (Vicker's extended mag catch, Suarez extractor, etc) but running NYPD2 Orange trigger and Glock minus connector. It shoots dead center at 25 yd with and w/o a can in standing unsupported position, so I'm OK with it.
Then recently a friend brought her S&W M&P Shield 9mm (the 1.0 OG version) so she could break it in. Asked me to shoot it, and the first time I used it for a few rounds at 10 yd, it was all dead center. I helped her clean it and field strip it. I was impressed with the quality and design/appearance. It got me looking at the current M&P lineup like the 5.7, M&P 2.0 full sized, and M&P Shield Plus. I love the ergo's on the 5.7 and 2.0 - the slide finish/design is so much nicer feeling than the Glock. The triggers are light years above Glock. The Shield Plus feels better in my hand than the SIG P365X, but I feel the 365X has the better trigger - and from what I have seen in others' testing, the 365X barrel seems to yield better grouping than the Shield Plus. I like the FCU concept with the 365 though, as it makes everything easy to clean. With the M&P trigger group, taking it all apart isn't impossible but is more complex so I figure hosing it with Rem Oil is probably the way to go.
On my Glock 17, I normally do a full disassembly after each range session (that means down to removing the connector, trigger spring, striker, etc...) and it doesn't seem as convenient on these modern pistols (P365 included - the striker removal is a PITA).
