I have a chance to purchase a S&W Model 36 hand ejector with a 2" barrel. S# 384545 and I would like to know what year it was made. If anyone can help with this or tell me where I can go to find it I would really appreciate it.

What info I have says between 1962 (295000) and 1969 (786544).

Most likely around 1964.

We might get it a little closer knowing whether it has a flat latch cyl release button and a diamond around the grip screw.

As Jim said, probably around 1964, but it could have shipped in 1965. I have one at 3538xx that shipped in September, 1964. I strongly suspect the one you are looking at has the flat latch. Those didn't go away until 1966.
