Just picked up this 1968 Chief's Special .38. Man, this is my first J frame and what a difference. I love the feel of the K frames but this is a cool little gun. Can't wait to shoot it next week.

Congradulations on you new purchace.I to just ordered my first j frame a S&W 637 I havnt recieved it yet.I cant wait.

The Model 36 is a nice piece. And the square butt handles quite well with the factory grips. Being a steel frame @ 19 ounces, it will handle full loads without battering your hand like the Airweights. Congratuations on a classic and a nice purchase!

LOL, yeah, this is very addicting. After one month I have 7 revolvers (.38's) and am picking up my 8th (a 1917) next week.

Man this is fun.

Better late than never! Congratulations on a fine-looking vintage Chiefs Special!

Nice find!! You're not addicted no more, you're hooked LOL.I have a round butt 36 and there a blast to shoot.Enjoy your new gun.

I paid too much for it. I paid $399.00 but I am just getting started so I am not very disciplined. I am never sure when or if I will see others so I tend to jump at them whenever I see them.

depends on what part of the country you're in. And like one wag has here in his sig line, you didn't pay too much, you may have just bought it a little too soon.

Nice ones can go for more than that in parts of the country . . . .

Very nice. Another nice thing about the 36 is there seems to be an abundance of S&W boxes on Gunbroker if you decide you want a cardboard blue box (dating to the manufacture of yours) for it.

Congrats on your beautiful Chief's Special. When I first started shooting in the late 80's I was the Dinosaur who passed on the Glock for a Model 64 revolver listening to the sage advice of a NYPD officer friend of mine who said once you can shoot a Double Action Revolver well you can pick up any gun and shoot it well.Over the years I resisted the temptation + finally got my Chief's Special in 9mm but it doesn't make me smile as much as when I take out my DAO Model 640 357 Magnum to play. When you and your new friend bond my only ? will be when the next will arrive....Enjoy and God Bless.....Mike

Maybe by just a little ($50.00 or so). It is debatable as there are a lot of variables. I think you did just fine and you'll make it up on a future transaction.

Best of luck,

Dave
