Had my heart bypass surgery last Thurs, June 24. Guessing that makes me the newest member of the S&W Heart Bypass Club. Been having chest pains walking the steep hills around my house, so went in for a check up and they kept me. Surgery went well, a few episodes of A Fib, and home in 5 days. Pain has not been too bad (although I take 13 pills in the A.M., 8 at noon, and 10 at night), unless one coughs or sneezes, then it is roll on the floor time.

If more senior members of the SWHPC want to give me some pointers, I would appreciate it. Every thing seems to be on the mend, except my left shoulder?

Can I be an Associate Member? I have a significant blockage in a coronary artery but my cardiologist believes my body built its own bypass around it. Those self made bypasses are called collaterals and are well documented in medical literature.

Take care of yourself and get well fast.

Charlie.....glad that you are doing better, prayers for a swift recovery. Sit on that mountain porch and gaze out on what God has created.....I promise you will feel better.
JayCeeNC and I will take care of any shootin iron deals floating around while you are in recovery.

Take care my friend

Had my surgery in '13. I recall an amazingly fast mend, but do not catch a cold - coughing was a real pain for a couple weeks. Do whatever rehab they recommend. I think it speeds things up.

Charlie, hope you have a fast and complete recovery and I hope to see you in Tulsa! I had some minor BP issues recently and my MD said "I told you to quit watching the news". Smart doctor.

I still haven't figured out if my zipper..zipped from top to bottom or bottom to top...

But...You didn't mention how many art's got replaced, but more than likely they took a vein(s) from one of your legs..so..Get yourself a "walking stick" and start taking some nice walks around the neighborhood to keep the blood flowing..And/or get one of those "Senior" bicycles. those we will keep the blood flowing in those legs...Wear your compression socks!!!...and take the medicine your have been prescribed to take for your recovery.

Give yourself time to heal, we ain't no spring chickens any more...Sho nuff your chest will be sore for some time, so you might want to limit your rough housing with your grandkids, if you have any young'ns.

Seriously,,,excercise.....:D....A really good place if you have one around you, is a swimming pool..A place I went to had both the lap pool, and the warm water resistance pool. I found that one of those physical fitness places with all the exercise equipment was far more affordable than one of those re-hab places that had the same equipment..The only difference between the two, was the re-had a monitor of your progress.

Now that you've probably learned the hard way...No more bacon/greasy hamburgers/french fries, deep fried anything..( well..in limited quanities from now on)....:(

Well come to the Zipper club.:)

thanks fuzz, good advice. Especially the limited qtys out. Doc said to eat what you want for 3 weeks, to get over the loss of appetite and keep things healing. Then its onto blands ville. I go for PT in 6 weeks at hospital clinic

I have no experience and therefore no advice, but wish you a speedy and complete recovery.

Charlie, that hurts to even think about much less having to go through it. You have a good attitude which may be the most important aspect of recovery.
I hope we'll see you in Tulsa.
Regards,
