Local GS mentioned that S&W has their second generation M&P in the works.

He gave no details on what the improvements might be, but said he expects it to be released at the 2013 Shot Show.

Just an FYI.

Hopefully they lower the price on the current generation, I'm good with them. If it ain't broke don't fix it, look what happened with Glock and all the trouble their going through.

That said, if S&W improved the stock trigger that would pretty much be all they can improve on. I love my M&Ps, not even sure I'd buy a new generation of them.

My local GS told me a while back that Beretta was discontinuing the civilian version of the M9 and that Sig would never sell the 226 MK25 to the public, but I now own both. My point: don't put a lot of stock into the local GS grapevine. My wish: that S&W doesn't screw up a great gun just for marketing. Small model year updates to improve the platform (trigger reset, striker block, etc.) would be better. I own 5 M&P pistols and they have all been flawless!

I swear my ex-boss used to make stuff like that up just to present the appearance he was "in the know".

The Shield has two improvements that I would like to see in the other M&Ps, the new trigger and the low profile manual safety.

Having said that, i own two fullsize M&ps, a compact M&P and now a Shield. They have replaced a Glock 23, FNP and Kahr CW9. I replaced those pistols because everytime I had to shoot for scores or in any type of competitive environment, I found myself using my M&Ps.

I realized over time that no matter how much I practiced with the other guns, i was always more comfortable shooting the M&Ps. I don't see much that needs to be improved.

I think that a cleaner breaking trigger would be a nice improvement but beyond that I don't really see a lot to be changed. I did install a 19lb recoil spring but that was primarily to make brass recovery easier (I shoot mostly in the woods). We have a range a couple of hours away that has a LOT of pistols for rent. Over the course of 4 visits my son and I fired a lot of different pistols that were all from respected manufacturers. With the exception of a Sig P226 I never found anything that I enjoyed shooting as much. The Sig is over twice the price of the M&P. I personaly feel that much of the complaining about poor accuracy is totaly overblown. There may be a few out there with problems but I also suspect that it has become an excuse for poor marksmanship. None of the other 9mm's I've fired has shown any noticable increase in accuracy.
