He's doing very good for his age.

However, I think he's got just a tad more recoil than he should given on a regular basis for his age. Five years from now, I wouldn't see it as a problem, but at his age I'd be a bit scared depending on how many rounds per week he shoots.

I remember talking to some notable shooters and they said that, depending upon how much they shot, they developed problems in their wrists from the repetitive recoil.

Not a problem if he shoots a couple of times a week, but it is if he practices every day.

Give the kid a .22LR 1911 to practice with until he becomes a teenager- save his wrists.

He's got a good start to go far, so long as he doesn't develop any bad habits from recoil or something else- like flinching like he does in the movie.
I developed a habit of flinching at the sound of a gunshot when I was 12. Starting using ear protection, and it relieved the problem.

He's actually shooting IPSC, not IDPA.
If you watch closely, he breaks the 180 before the first shot and points the gun generally toward the photographer, who is standing forward of the RO.
The kid is certainly trying hard and doing pretty well with a gun that is way too big for him, and he has a wicked flinch.
The officiating is way below US standards.

Like I would know!
