About 2 weeks ago I posted that I had bid on a gun thinking it was something else? Well of course I won the auction and it arrived today. It was not at all as described.

I am a shooter and not a collector. I have never sought out guns in perfect condition. I like them to have a little character and no matter what it looks like, when I get my grubby little hands on them they become shooters. Over the years without ever trying I have bought numerous guns that arrived in pristine, never been fired condition.

Well, it happened again. This Model 39 was described in the auction text as showing scratches and handling marks. Maybe that was boiler plate stuff they put in all their auctions because this gun appears unfired. No visible wear at all. Even the magazine shows no marks from going in and out of the magazine well. Also, it has the nicest stocks I've ever seen on a S&W auto pistol. Really nice grain and color.

I was planning on just flipping it to try to get my money back. Now I'm thinking it's a keeper.

Here's a quick photo that doesn't do it justice. This one dates from 1965-66.

That's a keeper. No reason not to shoot it, at least in my opinion. You can shoot it, but not use it as a carry gun. Kind of the best of both worlds.

I have a old 39 beater and will trade you even if that will make you feel better. LOL. Great find, that is a keeper. Best of luck and enjoy.

I've been very attracted to things, but I never "Fell in Love" on the first date! Time will tell and I suspect you'll be happy you kept it.

I have found the model 39 to be one of the sweetest shooters they every came out with . It was sort of like they got it perfect out of the gate. But had to improve on it for business sake. Everyone wants the next upgrade. There is no nicer shooter than a model 39...IMO

Everybody gets lucky once in a while!

That's a real nice model 39 with a gorgeous set of grips. I love my beater 39 more than any of the other semi-autos I have, all of which are waaaay nicer than my 39 to look at.
