You saved some money because it was a hassle to clean! Good work...K-Frame round butts are about my favorite configuration. It fits my hand like I wish the J frame does! And nickel warms my old heart. What a find!
I agree completely. No need for a special tool. I use a flat-blade screwdriver (the same one I remove the sideplate screws with) and push the top of the rebound slide up just enough so I can get the tip under the bottom of it. I place my thumb over the end of the spring and then push the rebound slide up until the spring releases into my thumb and then I slide it off. To install, I use a Phillips screwdriver that is just large enough to not slip inside the spring. I position it so that one of the four "indents" in the tip is straight down. Then, I use the screwdriver to compress the spring while also pushing down slightly on it. The boss will slide right into that indent while the spring is pushed over it. It is super-simple, but hard to explain.A slender pocketknife blade or a Phillips head screwdriver work just as well.
