Nickel 29-2

Added this one to the family. 29-2 in nickel, 6” barrel with a presentation case. Serial number N814778, to me looks like a 1980 birthday, but you guys are better at that stuff than I am. The case has been modified but the gun is really nice. Have real doubts if it’s been fired outside the mothership. I like the nickel guns so I couldn’t let it sit at the gun shop all alone. It wasn’t the only thing that came home but that’s in another thread.

I have a nickel 6 1/2" 29-2 from around 1973 coming to me next week when I get home from the rig and I can't hardly wait to get it myself.

Congratulations on the 29-2! My nickel 6" is close to yours, it's 754925. I bought in new in the early 80's.

Very nice Model 29! Be sure to re-center that Stock Pin before shooting to avoid any possible damage to the stocks.

I, also, have a 29-2 44mag with 8 3/8 barrel nickled. I have the original presentation case with tools and all paperwork. I probably never will shoot it. A gunsmith friend said not to use Hoppes #9 on the nickel plating, only in bore and chambers. Said it would cause plating to peel and/or turn brownish. Mine came with old Altamont target grips.

I just bought a 629 no dash[4in unfired] and somebody over varnished the grips[don't know why they do that] lightly went over them with 0000 steel wool. Got down to the original satin oil finish then a coat of Ren Wax! they look factory original now...……………………………………….M*

I also have a 44 mag 29-2 nickel purchased in 73/74. The problem I have is the screw in the rear sight seems to have a small washer that slides under the ramp that has worn and now it pops up out of the groove. Can a new screw be ordered From S&W or are these parts obsolete now.

I recently got a 6in nickel 29-2. Mine is N454207 so a bit earlier than yours but not much. Having never owned a nickel gun before I didn’t realize how rich and lustrous they are. Here’s a picture just to show off lol

Most likely mid year 1981, maybe July.

Are you talking about the elevation stud that slides into the cut at the back of the frame for the sight? Here is a link to what I am talking about.
