Am I hallucinating or did I see a Talo or Lew Horton offering for a nickel boron treated M&P??? I can no longer find reference to this option and just want to know if it's something my brain is making up...

OK,

Now I'm seeing them listed again...

So, I'm not eating the paint chips again...

And I had to edit the thread title and first post. I had it listed as "boron nitride" and it's "nickel boron"... Ya, moron... :P

But it seems that you have to click the "M&P Handguns" tab at the top to view all the M&P's to see them. If you click the 9mm or .40SW drop down selections then it doesn't list them.
Never mind...

I just purchased one off of gunbroker. I am excited to get it. I am pretty sure it's just the slide and barrel and not the internals.

I was hopeful it would be like the EXO failzero glocks. We shall see!

Cool looking M&P, I wonder if this finish is as good as Robars NP3? At least this one comes this way from the factory. I'll check with my dealer Monday for a price, one on GB is $520.

There have been a couple color/material variations on the M&P slide sold by S&W, including stainless and nickel boron, as described last Feb. 3rd on this thread:

There are also some other interesting after market variations shown on that thread or via links posted there. I wouldn't be surprised if S&W is outsourcing the stainless and even more likely, the nickel boron slides, but at least you should have no warranty quibbles if your gun is modified as such and they've (S&W) endorsed and sold it.

Nickel boron really has some upsides--it's much harder than melonite or tenifer, there's much less friction between moving parts and the need to clean isn't as frequent. I can't help but wonder if something so hard is more susceptible to chipping, but I haven't had any such issues and I've shot a lot of rounds in a short time without babying my gun.

Some like the standard beige, almost golden look, but some companies can do nickel boron in a wide variety of colors--it's increasing popular in camo on AR platforms.

Interesting, the Melonite coated slide is made of stainless and is marked "STAINLESS". The nickel Boron slide doesn't appear to be marked stainless.

Nickel Boron M&P

I picked one up when someone on the forum fiirst pointed them out on the Smith Website. I believe they were a Talo run because one of my local dealers has a great pipeline into the Talo stuff and he got me one in 3 days.
Its a nickel Boron slide and i think barrel, as the barrel is almost a polished silver. The slide is kind of a beige/silver. I also have one of the factory nickel boron Glock 19's that Glock did a run of using the Fail Zero company.

I just bought one and the barrel is the same as what you describe yours as. I had some FTFs that damaged the chamber face on mine. Now I'm not sure if the barrel is actually NiB coated or if it is even a correctly processed stainless steel. Have you found out if your barrel is actually NiB coated?
