I just bought a boxed Model 38, in nickel. Serial# J859xxx. It has been stored in the box, inside a safe for several years. The nickel finish is not shiny, as there is a light fog over the entire gun. It does not wipe off with oil. Is this normal for a nickel gun that has been stored? What can I use to clean the gun that will not leave swirls or scratches? Also, any thoughts as to when this gun was made. Thanks, Skip48

The cloudy or milky areas is, so I have been told, oxidation. You will need to polish the nickel surface. You can use Flitz or Mothers Mag Polish. Used a clean soft cloth, old T shirt, don't press hard and start polishing. It will take time and patience, but it should polish out. It may not polish out completely immediately. You may have to polish certain areas more than once or twice. I suggest you use a wax to protect the finish once you have polished it out. Renissance Wax is good, but there are other product available. I would suggest you use Prolix as as cleaner. Prolix will not damage nickel finishes. Good luck, be patient and take your time.
