I'm the original owner of a Smith and Wesson Model 5904 with adjustable sights. As the gun has gotten older, so have I and my vision is not a great as it used to be. That fact and along with its' primary purpose is home defense and plinking, I would like to either get a laser sight, red-dot system, or at least night sights. However, it looks like many of these sights have been discontinued by the manufacturer. For example, all of the below fit the gun, but have been discontinued.

Crimson Trace Laser Grips LG-359
LaserMax
Trijicon SA01 night sights

Do I have any other options for this gun that would not require permanent alterations (viz. milling of the slide to make an adaptor plate fit )?

Thank you for any advice given.

Considering you started out with Adjustable sights, are you sure there are Trijicon sights that would fit - my recollection is slide is cut different for adjustable - but someone may be able to confirm or correct that assumption. The Trijicon do show up occasionally on ebay and some of the storefronts like Optics Planet - but beware of dates - they are good for about 8-10 years from manufacture - though my understanding is Trijicon will relamp them for a fee.

As for the Crimson Trace LG359, I see those occasionally on ebay - set up a search for LG359 and LG-359. They are a bit odd and take some getting used to - I abandoned mine. Make sure they are fully operational. Figure $200+/- last one I saw. Not a fan of LaserMax,

Another odd option would be to look for a 5904/5906 parts kit (I believe 3904/3906 kit would also work, but stay away from the compacts (unless you are going for a 5904SSV) and stay clear of the DAO variants) with dead Night Sights and send slide back to Trijicon to relamp. Get a kit with correct barrel cutout on slide or with good barrel matching the slide cutout. Figure $150-200 plus relamping.

Personally I would go for option 3 =replace slide. (I have a 3904 that SW replaced early fixed sight slide with a silver 3906 slide with night sights - I bought it that way - but confirmed work had been done by SW in 1993.)

If you're looking for a RD , contact Guzzitaco or BMCM . Guzzi has mounted a Sig Romeo on my 745 , Recon45 and a 669 , none of which he had to make non-reverse able mod's to .
