I bought a S&W Pro Series 1911 Subcompact, in early December and have gotten about 500 rounds downrange. The pistol is superb in reliability and accuracy but I am accustomed to night sights on my carry weapons, which are not offered on this .45. Does anyone market a front and rear tritium sight kit for this pistol? I've found several shops online which offer Meprolight sights for "full sized" S&W 1911s. Would these be compatible with my subcompact model? I've found nothing listed on S&W's website and could probably call their custom shop, next week, to see if they offer night sights and installation work. Any recommendations?

Have you tried the vial installation? It sounds risky.

Yes, I've had them installed in multiple pistols, no issues after many years. The last set I had installed was about 5 years ago on a Baer 1911 that had Novak sights, if I remember correctly it ran right around $60 shipped.

Started using them about 1990 without a single issue.

S&W Fan: Thanks for the lead. I only live a couple of hours from Oxford, if that's where they do the work. I'll give them a call on Monday and see what's available.

So what is it they install, a Trijicon like vial in the current 'dot position' of your existing sight? Excuse my ignorance but you've got my attention, $60 sure beats $160-200 for a set installed by a LGS!

Thanks!

Drew, you are correct. They drill out the existing sight & install the vials, no different installation than what is found on any other night sight. The only requirement is that the sight have enough depth to hold the vial. Don't hold me to the cost as it's been a few years, a quick call or email should get all the info needed.

Again all they need is the slide & "presto" now the pistol has night sights (plus poa/poi remains the same as previous). Yup big savings over a whole new set.

Sammy that would certainly save shipping costs, hope it works out for you.
