Does any one know of a way to get night sights on the PC 627 with the 2 5/8" barrel? I called S&W and was told sorry, not our problem and we don't suggest night sights as you may shoot in too much darkness and not know your target. PC answer I am sure.

XS doesn't make them for the dove tail cut in the 8X so what else is there and Trit Big Dot was my preference.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

May I suggest that you contact Tooltech: Home

They can probably install a Tritium sight in the existing front sight. You might need to remove it from the dovetail and mail it.

Thanks PSS, I had called Smith, XS and Mepro and Meps referred me to Tooltech as an alternative. I can't believe there isn't another option like an Auto loader front blade that will fit that dovetail, or one too big that can be ground down to fit. Thanks again.

Hey Guys I have an idea, can a dovetailed sight be cut doen and notched so that a J frame XS big dot could be installed and pinned into the remaining base of the existing front sight blade. I would like to buy another one so I can put the 8X back to its original condtion should I ever sell it but thats doubtful as I am wanting a 2nd one just in case they ever start outlawing semi-auto ownership.

In my opinion there isn't enought metal there to do that. A front sight costs a lot less than a new barrel. If it was me, I'd call Tooltech and tell them what I wanted. Then I'd drift the front sight off (from left to right) with a brass or nylon punch and mail it to Tooltech.

That bright/big orange ramp on the 2 5/8" PC627 UDR is quite visible in very low light - something that the tritium Night Sight that came standard on my 60 Pro isn't. In fact, in the darkness it takes to be seen, unless your target is luminescent, you won't see your target! I would suggest you try a Night Guard series - like the 327NG, a 2.5" lite weight (Black Al/Sc frame and black SS cylinder.) 8-shooter - but it won't take moonclips or have the trigger that the 2 5/8" PC627 UDR has. When faced with the perceived 'need' for a HD revolver - with capacity in .38 Spcl +P - a second PC627 UDR was my choice.

Seriously, check your empty PC627 UDR out in your bedroom at night - and see if you can tell where that orange ramp - and target - are - you may be shocked. I want a HiViz for my 60 Pro's tritium Night Sight!

I agree with Stainz on this one and I too own a 627PC UDR. It's a VERY bright sight, even in low light. With a flashlight it's way more than adequate and it's my bedside companion for that reason.

I went down your path here awhile back and came back to either Tooltech or nothing. Except that Bullseye Smith came up with an idea of using a Marble's gold bead from Brownell's as a replacement due to dovetail size. I just never got around to doing anything about it after I sat in my darkened house and used a flashlight and the gun as designed with snapcaps. MORE than adequate and I'll leave it at that. If it's really a hornet up your snout you might want to drop him a PM and see if he remembers the dimensions of that dovetail. Sorry Brother, I deleted the PM when I dropped the idea of conversion.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the above, night sights aren't the all that end all. I've got them on a couple of my 1911s, including my duty gun, and they're just not that great. Put your money into a good flashlight and do some training with it it won't matter what sights you have on your gun.

I've noticed that younger people and newer shooters tend to be the ones most enamored with night sights on the various gun boards.

Thanks Jesse...I am 55 and been shooting since I was 8 y.o. The main reason O wanted the Big Dot was due to my eyes and not su much the tritium in it. I should have been clearer on that point. I appreicate the input though from everyone.

I recently took the Crimson Trace laser grips off my 3” 629 and put them on my UDR. I’m pretty sure if it is so dark I can’t see the orange site I will be able to see the blazing red dot on my target. I also find it hard to see my sites even in daylight so I’m in the process of converting all my carry guns to fiber optic / laser.

I wish CT would make a N frame grip with CCW in mind. I have used L frame that almost fit, and I have cut the tail off these N frames.
