I am flirting with the idea of buying a 627 PC 2.62" or 327 Night Guard.

Both N Frame, both 8 Shot, same size, same price ($900 locally), big weight difference...37 ozs vs 27 ozs.

I have the 7 shot versions of both guns. The 686 PC 2.5" and the 386 NG. They are hands down my 2 favorite carry guns. They are both super accurate, and I shoot both exceptionally well. The advantage goes to the NG because of the excellent night sights and the fact that it is 12 ozs lighter.

However, for some strange reason, I find myself carrying the 686PC virtually everyday. Either IWB in a Tucker Texas Heritage or a Simply Rugged Pancake OWB. The weight is a non-issue for some reason. It doesn't bother me at all. I don't even notice I am carrying it.

I am leaning toward the 627 PC at the moment because of how fond I am of my 686PC. Any thoughts or suggestions why I should choose one over the other? Thanks!

I'd go with the 327 because I use the flutes to help guide me when reloading and the sights don't hurt either.

Even if the weight was reversed I'd go with the 327 for those reasons.

Can't really go wrong with either one though.

I just bought a 627 PC but like the previous post, don't know you could go wrong with either one.

I don't think the Night Guard it cut moon clips. You will have to send it out. You know how that went last time.

It would be cool the have the same gun Clint Eastwood used in the movie Blood Work (627 PC)

You are correct, the NG is NOT cut for moon clips. If I get the NG I won't bother cutting it. 8 shots should do the trick, don't need a crazy fast reload, a speed loader will be fast enough :)

But do like the fact that the 327 is cut for moons, definitely a plus for the 327 along with the PC action.

I think the 627 PC is just a much classier revolver. It has a nice style. It also is heavier to carry, which makes shooting it easier.

It think you go with the one that speaks to you.

I never liked the adj. sights on my 2.5in 686 for carry, too much of a chane to snag a shirt, or break a rear sight blade.

I like the sights on the NG much better, snag free and tritium.

I love the moonclip reload, but the sights alone give the nod to the NG for carry.

How are the Pachmayrs for CCW on the NG?? I have a 327 PC 2" with a Stainless Cylinder and am debating new grips for it. How sticky are the Pachmayrs on clothing? It has the Ahrend finger grooved grips on it currently.

I tried Pachmyrs on my 327 2", they tamed the .357's recoil, but they stick to my cover shirt, and make the shirt ride up.

Any chance you could shoot them first?

Usually, when I shoot a gun first and really like it, its just an automatic purchase. There's no debate in my head.

When I buy something for aesthetics, or based on my experience with other, similar guns, I end up with nice stuff - but not guns that I'm still thrilled about years later.

Thanks Eveled! I will stick to the woods then!

Definitely stick to the woods. The rubber compac grips stick like crazy. They also weigh over 5 ounces! Ahrends, depending on the type of wood, are as light as 1.2 ounces. Over 5 ounce grips on a gun designed to be light is absurd. No idea what S&W was thinking putting those grips on the Night Guard series. Totally defeats the purpose.

WOw, didn't think they were that heavy for the rubbers! I put a rubber S&W grip from my 686+ onto my 386PD and it helped a lot with recoil from the Ahrends woods that were on there. The 327 isn't as bad as the 386 recoil wise though.

DECISION MADE:

The winner is.....

The PC action/trigger and the fact that it is already cut for moon clips played a big role in swaying me this way.

Aesthetically I think it is the better looking gun for what that is worth. The finish is also more durable, (well there is actually no real finish), and it will be carried often.

It also has the Clint Eastwood Blood Work cool factor. Though Clint was looking a little decrepit by 2003, it is still Clint. This of course, is a terrible reason to buy a gun, and it played zero ROLE in the decision making process. Just thought I would throw it out there.

I have snubbyfan a holster maker on this forum making a holster for me for it. I think this blue jean colored holster is very cool that he is making for me!

I might also pick up a Simply Rugged OWB Pancake holster for it as well, as snubby is going to take a bit of time to get the holster made. I will also buy a few more moon clips and be done with it.
