NO LOCK ??

Jimmy,
I was at the LGS about 2 weeks ago. He had a 642 and a 442 on the shelf. Both listed as new. Both without the lock. I don't know how long he has had them in inventory. Probably not long as I went back last week and they were both gone.

I'm told some of the titanium J's can be ordered w/o the lock.

Last year when S&W replaced my 1993 vintage 442 with a brand new 642, I asked the customer service rep if I could specify a no lock version. He told me that I could, but I might have to wait a bit longer since they didn't make as many no locks as they did lock versions. It didn't take more than a couple of weeks as it happened.

So, they do make them, but not a lot of them. With demand right now, I'd say that it could be several months if you can even order them.

No-Lock versions of the 442, 642 & M&P 340 are produced. They had (have?) a 640 variant, too. I don't keep track of it, though, so there might be more.

The 40/42 were no-lock (had a grip safety, though), but they're currently listed as being out-of-production. (I regret not ordering one.)

It seems like the models with the internal hammer can be offered w/o the lock, I have not seen any recent S&W revolver that has an exposed hammer that does not have the IL
