A current post features a Model 14-2 that is stamped simply 14-2 without the MOD that I am accustomed to seeing. Was the MOD added at some point, is it common to see guns without it? What have I missed? I think all of my model marked guns say MOD xx-x. I don't have any without the MOD.

Another incorrect stamp by S&W. MOD- or MOD. was supposed to be stamped before the number, except on 629-1s and later versions when M. was stamped because of space limitations.

If it's the post I'm thinking of, another member pointed out that what some of us thought was a "10D" under the yoke was actually a poorly-stamped "MOD".

The "10D" is stamped between the S/N and model number.

I have a 29-2 that is poorly stamped like that. It clearly says lCD instead of MOD. Obviously part of the M and O are missing.

I also have a 15-3 that should have the serial number stamped in the yoke recess but doesn't. Just MOD 15-3.
