I thought Lance Reventlow had the Scarab name for his racing cars in the mid 1960s. Wonder if he copyrighted it? They were designed for Le Mans racing. I saw them at Thompson Raceway.

The Lance Reventlow Scarabs are the ones that most of us car guys know about.
I had never heard of the earlier Scarabs.
Don't know about the copyright.

Cyrano, I met Lance and his Chief Mechanic at the sports car races on the Gardnerville-Minden Airport in 1961. I was a lowly course Marshall. He was gracious and friendly. I drooled over his Corvettes. I asked the Chief Mechanic what some of his engine building 'secrets' were. He said that they knurled the pistons and then pounded them into the cylinders, then removed them and installed the rings. Then they use very light weight synthetic oil with very little break-in before the race. He said each engine was used for one race only before doing all that over again.

I don't believe that I ever read anything about his copy-writing the "Scarab" name. The subject never came up while we talked. I do know that even after being raised in LV and living in Reno for years, I never ever saw 'hotter' pit Dollies than those hanging around Lance's operation.

Did scarab race Can-Am with A J Foyt in 1965?

This video has a few interesting details about the OP's pictured vehicle -definitely ahead of its time:

That was pre-CanAm days. AJ drove the rear engine Scarab for Mecom racing. A chap I used work with took a photo of the car when a rear tire blew and raised the bodywork. Fantastic photo. That was at Mosport.
