Went to my local shop Saturday looking for some primers. Of course they had none. I asked if he had any on the way and was told not to expect any for a year. I can't imagine no primers hitting the shelves for a year. Does my guy have bum info?

Yes.The supply and demand cycle we see now is no different than the last great primer scare of the nineties. I’ll tell you this there are those that bought primers in the nineties that are still using what they purchased then today. It’ll take approximately a year or so to straighten out the problem and return to normalcy. Ten to twenty years from now there well be those among us still using primers they bought in a panic this year.

Let's hope it's still legal to use them then . . .

I received similar information from a local shop. They said their suppliers were saying they were back ordered into 2010. I hope that was an exageration.

might be a bit of a exageration, but not by much. don't think you will see primers in any quantity until in the late fall. winchester is running as hard as they can and barely staying even with daily orders and are at least 6 months backlogged right now. doubt if any of the other primer makers are in much better shape. maybe cci since they aren't used extensively by the commercial reloaders.

That just bites. I am down to 2K Large Pistol and 500 Small Pistol. Plenty of bullets, powder and shells though

. Guess I'm gonna have to do more fishing this summer. Not a bad thing for sure.

Thank goodness I bought 20,000 (10,000 large and 10,000 small pistol) last Sept to augmment my 12,000 I had in stock. As soon as I knew who the Democratic candidate was, it just seemed like the prudent thing to do.

very scarce yes, extinct no.
local bass pro had empty shelves short of 600 cci large pistols in the 100ct packs....key word is had.

Local shop here got 30,000 primers in this morning.

'Course they're all gone by now . . .

I didn't buy any, I can plan ahead and was in a position to buy.

Too many were hoping for "Hope and Change" because of the "evil" GWB to pay attention to their primer supply!

Well, we got "Hope and Change" alright. Now you can "Hope" for primers and shell out a bunch of "Change" when they become available again!

Take off the IPOD, turn off the TV, stop listening to the network news and pay attention to your surroundings. Things are going on all around you that will affect how you live, freedoms you enjoy, liberties that make America what it is.

There is NO WAY this administration got elected without SOME staunch gun advocates voting for it. Now, I just hope they aren't the ones crying about milk that has been spilled.

Not an accusation, just an observation.

I suspect at some point the demand side will get really saturated. Lots of folks will stop buying, both firearms and reloading supplies. I suspect then some good deals on firearms will appear on the auction blocks and in gun stores ... kind of like the S&W 29 in the mid 1970's.

If not many folks are buying material, since they have overpurchased currently, what will sustain the firearms industry ?

Damn good post Skip, I couldn't agree with you more.

One of the best posts I have ever seen

Skip you nailed it dead center 10 ring X

A guy from out of town came in to my local shop last Saturday, and bought all the primers in stock at $35 per 1000. Saturday night they were on GB for $65 per 1000. Don`t know which one to be madder at, the buyer or the shop.

I still think its the Mfgs and Distributors. Has anyone seen any Wolf primers or ammo lately? The Russians arn't making ammo for a mideast war. Yet where are their ammo and primers? At any price. If it were being shipped in great quantities you would see it at Midway, Sportsman Guide, Cabellas, Weidners, etc. even if it quickly sold out. But it never appears. The USA manufacturers and distributors weep that they are running 24/7 yet their products never hit the retail outlets. If i saw an ammo thread on this forum that said so and so has a huge shipment even if it sold out in a few days I'd say its supply and demand. But I don't see those threads and I think we are being had.

I haven't seen Wolf primers or Wolf ammunition for months. If I remember correctly, Wolf primers were being imported by a company in Orange County, California. Somewhere I have their name, address, and telephone number. If or when I find the information, I will give them a call.

All my reloading has used Large Pistol, Large Rifle, and Small Rifle primers, and I do have a sufficient amount for more than a few years. I never used Small Pistol primers. Now that I gave my girlfriend a Beretta 92 for Christmas, she wants me to load 9mm. I have brass, bullets, powder, but only about 500 primers. She is not very understanding.

In a pinch you can load 9mm with small rifle primers, just cut your load down a few 1/0's of a grain, and work them back up.

Do you know this for a fact, or is this the rumor?
Reason I ask, is I was told Wolf is running behind, and primers won't be in this country until about June-July.
