No safety

Probably not or should you modify the safety. JMO
I have a thumb safety but don’t use it. The safety is off in my kydex holster and can’t be engaged while in the holster.
It requires an upward push with the thumb when out of the holster which takes some force and conscious effort.
In many years of use, I have never put the safety on by mistake.
I have owned a Shield and a Bodyguard 380 with the small safety which was always off and never went on by mistake.

On Shields with no safety, what keeps the sear pin seated?
Pretty sure pistols without safeties don't have shear pins. Striker fired guns (well, besides the Sig 320 apparently) generally don't have fully cocked actions, it's little bit of double action trigger pull. They are partially cocked only. On a properly designed pistol (again looking at you, Sig) the striker cannot fall off the sear. The safeties are 1) trigger safety that prevent pulling the trigger without depressing the trigger safety, and 2) a firing pin block which keep the firing pin from moving forward unless the block is moved out of the way by pulling the trigger. Before the 320 debacle I would have said it's impossible to have a modern pistol go off by itself. 1911's are different tho, some manufacturers went back to the pre-80s design without firing pin blocks, so they may not be drop safe.

Note that this is different with most rifles. Most rifle (& shotgun) safeties just keep you from pulling the trigger and do not keep the weapon from firing if it is dropped. This is why you never transport your hunting rifle with a round in the chamber and the safety on. We got a demo of this in the Navy on our M-14s, safety on and butt hit on the ground would make it fire.

The Shield is my first S&W auto. I carried 1911 first 17 years in LE until my Dept went to Glocks. Went to Glock armor school then after 25 years retired. Worked as a Pistolsmith at Wilsons for years.

If you really want to, you can just remove it. Problem is the frame is molded with the relief to accommodate the safety lever. There is no factory "plug" to fill the hole (unlike the larger M&Ps). No Thumb Safety Shield models do not have this relief. The safety blocks the trigger bar.

Is there a specific reason you want to remove it?
