Non marked Model 28 6” HELP

Traded for this at the Gun Show this weekend and wondering if I did good.
6” Highway Patrolman
Not marked Model 28
Serial Number S 1764xx

Prices vary so much by locale and other considerations that I stopped giving my opinion on prices. The bottom line is, if you are happy with the deal, that is all that matters.

That looks to be a 4 screw Pre-28 (Highway Patrolman) from around 1957

A bit more special than the common 28-2

It does however have the incorrect grips for the year.
It should have the "diamond" magnas on it, which you can find fairly easy on this forum from time to time.

As far as the price you paid - what I can is that if it had the original numbered diamond magnas on the gun - it would be worth more than you paid for it.

So I guess you did all right:)

The diamond N Magnas are not hanging around on the corner for cheap
with Diamonds.

I list two others with fairly close SNs, both of which shipped in May 1958. That would be a bit before model numbering began. I think it's generally accepted that N-frame model numbering started in the low SN S18xxxx range.

I appreciate the help. I knew the stocks weren’t original, but the date of shipping from the serial number and the fact it isn’t a stamped model number is why I did the trade. I still feel good about it, I would call it low end at 85% with the date correct stocks. So, I am happy.

I don't want to live anywhere else but Texas, but I do wish we had other peoples prices. You rarely see ANY 28 here under $700, they are usually around $800 just for 28-2's. I can make you fee better as I paid $950 for both my 4" pre-28 5 screw (first month production) and 6" 4 screw 28 no dash.

The Model 28 sells for quite a bit less up here on the Last Frontier. I guess everyone who moves to Alaska thinks they have to have a .44 Magnum or a 500 S&W. Or something. I see HPs (28-2) all the time at gun shows for around $500; both barrel lengths.

I do like my .44s but I still favor the Models 27 and 28.

However, in the mid-1980s I was out and about in the wintertime and had to shoot a charging cow moose to keep her from running over the top of me and my partner and our snow machines. I hit her right in the face with a jacketed 140 grain .357 bullet at about 25 feet. It turned her, but a couple hours later I went looking for her to see if she needed to be finished off. I found her in some willows eating!!! I started packing a .44 Magnum after that. :rolleyes:

I acquired a pre 28 4 screw for $550. out the door from local shop.

I think that I am correct with these stocks. Picked them up a few weeks back. Finish is original. Beeswax treatment makes them look too shiny. 28 no dash 1960. Bob
