I see that N Korea has launched it's missile despite Hillary's dire warning that " there will be 'consequences' if you launch". I'll bet their entire country is now trembling in fear and apprehension awaiting the "consequences" of their actions. What a joke !!!!

I will play the devils advocate here. I admittedly dont know what I am talking about, and have 0 love for north korea. YET, I am sure we have missles that can reach anywhere on earth, fundalmently why doesnt north korea or any other country not have the right to have them too? No, I dont trust them either, and I dont belive we would use ours unprovoked, STILL, isnt that like beliveing I should have guns but my neighbors shouldnt? Actualy, I WANT to be set straight on this!

Because we as a nation have proven time and time again that we have no Imperial designs. When it is necessary for the US to go to war, we defeat our enemies and rebuild their countries as stable democracies. We've earned the right to police the world, and Europe's current ability to spend so much on cradle to grave care for its citizens is due to our defense spending. Just my opinion, of course.

We could nuke North Korea to the Stone Age, but then they are already there. It seems we are arguing with an opponent who has absolutely nothing to lose.

I will buy that. I guess it would be like letting a baby walk around with a grenade in day care!

That's true, as far as it goes.

The other side of the coin is, whenever they act bellicose, renege on negotiated items, whatever -- which has been every single time since the Korean Armistice was signed -- we have reacted with more concessions after further "negotiations." It other words, its always more carrots, never an application of the stick.

It's long past time for a harsh spanking with the stick. Then that grotesque little man who orders his subjects to call him the "dear leader" might begin to understand that actions do indeed have consequences. Maybe one such consequence might be regime change.

Here is something to consider here:

China is emerging as a superpower; a nation that will be a "mover and shaker" in world affairs..something that she has wanted for thousands of years and that even Napoleon Bonaparte warned about over two centuries ago.

In that context, North Korea will threaten and posture and intimidate. They have nothing to lose...they are a basket case literally and figuratively.

China, however, has EVERYTHING to lose if Pyongyang starts a nuclear conflict...one that will ineveitably effect China, their northern neighbor.

If push comes to shove and it looks like the balloon is going to go up, I think China, out of her own self interest (and survival), will insure that North Korea's leadership will have "an unfortunate and untimely accident" and will replace them with a puppet regime that will be more under China's control.

Not saying this will occur or any change will be for the better, but is something we should consider as a serious probablility.

As a backup, two boomers in the South China Sea should handle the situation nicely with minimal effort.

North Korea is like East Germany- a failed state. The DDR built the Berlin Wall, North Korea having been hermetically sealed off for years must rely on prestige events like this missle launch to divert its people's attention from their misery.

It was reported to the North Koreans, that the launch was a success. The payload was in orbit.

The people of North Korea will never know any different.
