So this is one of the novelty knives I've accumulated over the decades and I always wondered it it really was a S&W product.

Any markings on the blade? My reference books are packed away for a move, however I vaguely recall these knives were related to a series of Leaders Stand Alone belt buckles & related gimcracks pf the 90s era. Ed.

That makes sense. It was given to me in the 1990s.

It says 1999 on it, which would seem to indicate its year of production. So did you get it in 1999 - or was it produced in advance of that date?

Not sure when it was given to me since it never really got carried or used. Could well have been 1999 or 2000.

I also found another S&W knife along with a cap I had no idea I had. This one says "FIRST RESPONDER" and M&P Special Edition. The box has an id of 1095883 and inside the end piece is the number 0718.

It is definitely a s&w product.

They released this brass handle slip joint in 1999 with the a wolf on the handle, and then released another set in 2000 that had a bear on the brass handle; both were made in Taiwan. They currently sell for around $20-$30 on a popular online auction site.

They are neat pieces of you ask me. I've always been a fan of the "leaders stand alone" phrase they've put on things. My favorite belt buckle is a S&W buckle with a front facing elephant, under it is the phrase "leaders stand alone".

Thanks for sharing.
