Not Happy With My 41

Backl in the Early Neolithic, when I was on a military pistol team, we were using up steel case 45 made for WW II, headstamped EC and ECS 42 and 43. We found that a drop of oil on the top round in the magazine extended the life of the 45 extractor, which was 1500-2500 rounds with steel case ammo. We were firing a lot of steel case and came up against that round limit fairly quickly.

Clark makes aftermarket barrels for the M41, they recommend a small amount of oil on the first round in the case of failures to feed. In my case it was always the second round (first round self-loaded) that failed, then not 100%.
I kept a slightly oiled patch handy and just touched the top round in the mag. If I forgot I would get an occasional failure to feed.
Somewhere around 200 rounds on the barrel, I remembered that I had not “oiled” but was having no problems. It’s a tight chamber and needed a little help.
