I sent in a M&P 40 last week because with the slide locked backed and when I slam in a loaded mag the slide disengages and chambers a load. Got it back today and of course it's still doing the very same thing. I'm a little ticked right now! No, make that a lot ticked!

That was my understanding, before I bought my 1.0s. That's the way mine operate, which is fine with me.

I am careful with my 1.0 compact... it's easy to pinch my hand with the mag if I'm not paying attention.

That's normal! So I've spoken to two CS Reps about it and they didn't mention that! Shouldn't that have been a recall?

Grand Power K100s do it almost every time and a hearty slap when inserting the mag on a Steyr M9 will give the same result.

Oddly enough, I don't recall this happening with either of my M&P 1.0 pistols. Maybe I need to get to the gym.

My 1.0's do it too, although not consistently. I agree it's not a feature, but it is what it is.

Nature of the polymer beast. First M&P I ever saw was a Detroit Police issue 45, friend of mine was an officer. When he inserted the mag, the slide slammed forward into battery. I thought something was wrong. Asked the gurus at my LGS about it, they said no big deal. Glocks do the same thing.

I'm willing to bet it has something to do with the slide. All 5 of my full size 1.0's do this. I changed out one of my slides to one of the new Faxon slides and it will not slam forward and chamber a round. I'm actually a bit disappointed.

Ky Bob, I liked that feature on my 1.0's, wish my 2.0's had it.
It's one less thing you have to do when you're in a hurry, whether competition or self defense.
The slide will only slam forward on it's own when a mag is inserted hard.
If you want the slide to stay back until you are ready to slingshot it, try inserting the mag more gently.
