Not just another holster question

I hesitate to start another thread about holsters as it may cause the whole internet to collapse from the weight of the repetition of the word, however I'm looking for specific insight from those that carry daily.
I have a Sigma 40 that I will be using in a 4 day firearm classroom setting. The suggested equipment with regard to holsters is one made from kydex.
While having never carried any type of holstered gun on my belt, I am quite familiar with carrying all other kinds of stuff on my waist as I'm a contractor.
My specific question is: does anyone have any experience with the Fobus roto type holsters?? I have one for my SP101 (have not had the opportunity to really wear it). It seems to work OK, but I don't have a comparison. The first thing I did with it, however, was change the cant to forward.
I am looking at the roto because it seem to be quite versatile, and also will allow me to experiment with different carry positions and cants. It's only about $30 for a HK1RP.
I completely understand the desire to have a "good quality" leather holster as it will just become part of you, however with all the options I just don't know where to start.
Would someone please tell me if I'm correct or crazy, if the Fobus is OK or junk, or that I'm just analyzing this stuff WAY TOO MUCH.....

While lots of folks like Fobus holsters, I have tried them and view them as only a notch above junk. And, they are not kydex, but are injection-molded plastic. Blade Tech, Comp-Tac and Ky-Tac all make great kydex holsters. My advice is to go to them.

Whether true or not, Fobus holsters are looked upon as being junk. I've had good luck with a few and bad luck with many. As far as using one for a four day class, I can't recommend that. If you must go plastic, Comp-Tac is probably the most popular and has fairly quick delivery times.

That was my first impression of the Fobus I got for my SP.........just didn't know if I was correct. I did look at the suggested sites and no one lists one for a Sigma......... maybe that was my first mistake.

My suggestion is to lose the Fobus. Nothing will jam up your training like equipment failure. 4 days of training will push that holster hard. Put up the cash now and get something that you are confident can handle it.

Fobus roto is a good start point as it has the ability to be adjusted. The fact that it is injected plastic mades it brittle enough to be broken. There have been numourous post and videos on how a Fobus can be broken right off. During force on force training I have seen it happen.
I would look at a quality kydex holster and a quality belt as well.
I personal use the instructors belt by wilderness and make my own kydex holsters.
Many things to be considered in holsters. Access, strength, print, ride height that restricts initial grip, weapon fit, material, noise on withdraw, comfort, etc.
I am compiling a lot of information and making videos on all the important points to look for in a holster.
I think the holster will be OK for your shoot but take a backup if you have one.

I have had fobus holsters, and while adequate I recommend you upgrade and spend a few extra dollars and use a blackhawk serpa. Used one for over a year overseas and was not disappointed or let down by it.

Where are you training??

I had been looking for a training for my daughter that lives in Vegas. She is kinda new to handguns and lives alone. She got a J frame airweight (in pink of course). She now needs to know how to really use it, and I know from experience I can't show her.
I found Front Sight training near there, (frontsight.com) and also got a great deal for the both of us. She will do a 2 day practical handgun course, and then have the opportunity to go back for a four day handgun. She will also have the opportunity to take a shotgun & rifle course if she pleases. She wants to CCW.
A friend of mine and I will start with the 4 day, then a two day tactical shotgun course looks fun. Haven't been to any kind of firearm training since qualifying expert with an M16 in the military.
I have heard mixed reviews of Front Sight business practices, however never a bad review of their training. Sounds like a blast.

I have not been to Front Site yet. Hope to make it there next year for a comparison to some of the other top trainers.
As in all training every different trainer has a different style and opinion. Go there with the mindset of learning everything you can, digest it, and compare it to any other training you may go to. You never stop learning.

I love the Comp-Tac holsters, but they don't currently have anything available for my gun, which is a S&W 6906. I got a Blackhawk Serpa (for a 6906 bit works perfectly) and it is the bomb! Fits just right, works perfectly, no issues at all. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I ordered a Blade-Tech holster for my Sigma and also one for my daughters J frame 442. Looking forward to getting them.
