My fiance was helping out today with the oral testing of some high school kids' Spanish as she is a native speaker. The kids were told to record a passage describing how to get from McCarran airport in Vegas to their home. They were to give directions using left, right and numbers and my girlfriend was to grade their grammar and pronunciation. Most went something like:-

"Go South out of the airport onto I-215, turn right until you reach the Rainbow Boulevard exit...blah, blah, blah...my house is the third on the right."

After about 40 or 50 of these, one lad recorded this gem:

"Walk out of the airport building to the taxi line. Tell the driver my address, he will know how to get here".

Read about a Spanish test once. Kids were given the layout of a house and were supposed to write, in the room, what it was (bed room, living room, whatever) in Spanish.

One kid had forgotten baño (funny - that's the only one I know), and as time was running out, finally labeled it "juan".

Sadly, not that unexpected if you've taught any kids lately. On many math tests teachers get - "Take our calculator" when asked how they would solve a problem. Same answer, different subject.
 
A good answer I guess considering todays way of doing things!

I was told by a young man that they know can do all the things the older generations know how to do.
...A cell phone,,credit card and a smile..

There are quite a few law enforcement officers here that have met adults who didn’t have sense enough to take that last kids advice.:D:D
 
I'm surprised the kid even knew about taxis. All of the younger folks these days seem to opt for Uber or Lyft or something.

Cute, but he should flunk for not following directions.
 
When I was studying for the WA Bar in 1993, there was discussion in the review class about a possible conflict of laws question coming up. The reviewer (taped lecture) pointed out that since this was the Washington Bar, the correct answer would obviously be that Washington law would apply. He then commented that it would be interesting to see what would happen if someone made a good argument that another state's law applied, and to consult a referral service.
