Not so "smart" idea

It is an interesting looking gun. The slide and frame are different than anything I've seen. :cool:

To bad it's useless to me because I wouldn't own anything that required that sort of lock. Where's the batteries? :rolleyes:
 
And the watch doesn't even come with it.

Who's buying a 22 pistol for $1800? The last line in the article is about prices dropping as consumer demand for safety increases...

I'm thinking about when I go shooting. Me and Dan, out on the farm. Dan hands me a gun, I shoot, I hand Dan my electronic 22, then hand Dan the watch that makes it work because you have to be wearing a watch...

I can only see this as a possibly good idea for LEOs. If someone gets your duty pistol, it doesn't work without the LEO watch, so the gun is useless unless it's in the cop's hands. But how often does someone get a cop's gun? How many times would this have to happen to make it worth buying this electronic system for all the police people?

My bet is that "their people" will be talking to the lawmaker critters and toting big sacks of cash and a line that "It's for the chi'druhn." It's reasonable common sense.

Can this thing even be sold in California? I saw no mention of micro-stamping capability....

Wait, what am I saying? You don't need micro-stamping. It's electronic - it probably prints you a receipt every time it fires. :rolleyes:

I'm not sure I've ever seen anything more poorly thought out.

And why a WATCH? Why not a ring? Or an earring? Or a suppository?

The suppository would clearly be the safest thing to use because nobody could 'steal' it from you - well, not very easily anyway.

Oh, and if you were a gunfighter in the dystopian, post-apocalyptic future with such a silly gun, then you could go by the moniker: "The Suppository Kid". Which would be fitting.

So you have to enter the pin number in to the watch first so it can send the signal to the gun to make it functional.
Doesnt seem like a real smart idea to me

Cops are notably conservative and that is especially true about their firearms. I have a very strong hunch that they'll be a lot more concerned about a "smart" gun NOT working when needed than some perpetrator taking their firearm from them. Fact is that "Secure" holsters have proven to be both inexpensive and effective.

Hopefully this company won't be able to make one single public sale of this "smart" gun. Because it's a theoretical technology that just needs to go away.
 
The way I read it....and maybe I'm not reading it right... but the Smart System doesn't appear it would work well for cops or carry in general unless you walk around with the gun in your hand all day. It requires a code to be entered in order to activate the unit. The unit has a range of 10in. If it goes out of range (10in) it deactivates. How do you keep your wrist within 10in of the gun all day long:confused: So that means the gun is always deactivated, requiring you to tell the bad guy to hold on a minute while you use both your hands, one wearing the watch and the other hand entering the code, to activate your gun before it will fire.

I suppose the Smart System would be ok for recreational guns, but not for a gun that you might actually need to defend yourself absent the bad guy giving you time to get set up and enter your pass codes properly. :rolleyes:

It is possible to release the safety mechanism via the radiocontrolled watch activated by means of a PIN code. German over-engineered POC!

Has nothing to do with smart. If they want a system like that they could have done it the same way jet ski are equipped. With a a simple lanyard and pin. No battery, no RFID, no transmission that can be interrupted and manipulated and no rip off.

Whoever buys that needs to turn it in right away. The brain and the gun.

I looked it up.

It has an indicator light on the back to tell you battery life.

It also has a timer you can set so it don't stay on to long.

Lots of things to go wrong. Imagine this, Your batt. goes dead and lights up then the thing locks up when you run out of time. All why your trying not to get killed.

Hmmm, first a .22 RF for self defense? Second, just when you need it the battery goes dead? Range from gun to watch 10", what if you had to wear your watch on the left wrist? There are so many reasons this is a dumb idea.

It's a freakin' .22 for crying out loud. Who's gonna buy this for self defense? It doesn't work on any level. I hope not one person buys this thing. It's an insult to gun owners everywhere.
 
absolute and total waste of technology.
about the ONLY place I can see this working out at all is in a strict range gun. at which point the entire platform is wrong, It should be a raced out bullseye competition piece that will never be called upon for SD HD hunting, or even a BBQ photo op

I believe it got on the roster in Nov 2013. As long as they don't make any changes to it they can pay $200/yr extort... ummm... "fee" to renew it. I'm guessing they'll be able to actually change anything they feel like & the CA DOJ will look the other way.

Now that is an idea!! Corner the world wide market on pocket lint, which frankly could be done, and you could ...., what exactly is it you could do if you corner the world wide market on pocket lint once again? A world wide monopoly has to be worth something.

Oh I know incorporate, take it public on wall street and dump it on the public, making a fortune in the process. The American Dream at last.
 
I read the Washington Post article on this and, in that article, they used a couple of car analogies. I decided to come up with one of my own.

Basically, what they came up with here is a equivalent to a car that runs on peanut oil, which is a great idea in theory and on paper. Except, it's the size of a go-kart, it gets a half mile to the gallon, it breaks down if it hits a pothole, and it costs the same as a brand new Corvette. Basically something that will only be bought because it's the first of its kind, even if it's really not. Ain't nobody gonna buy it to really use it.

My gun(s) work good with a devise used for telling time....

It's called the sun... I shoot when the sun is up, and not so much when the sun's down.
