Is it illegal if your ccg shows a slight print through your shirt ?

NYS requires that your weapon be concealed at all times unless you are wearing a guards' uniform.

If you carry exposed you can be charged with disturbing the peace, which is sufficient to have your license revoked.

But "concealed" is not the same as "hidden". It is somewhere between "obscured" and "hidden". It should not be obvious to the casual observer. Cops are trained to observe and they might notice it more than civilians.

When I first started carrying concealed it was harder to conceal weapons. First the holsters were not as good as they are today. (The big excitement was when they came out with "pancake" holsters.)

And, second, no one was carrying phones on their belts. The bulge under the shirt nowadays usually means a phone, not a gun. That was not so in the 1970s and 1980s.

Also note that if you live in Nassau or Suffolk Counties they do not issue (last I heard) unrestricted carry permits. They issue unrestricted business carry permits, and they issue "hunting and target shooting" permits. The latter is good only when travelling to or from a hunt or the range.

So if you are drinking on a Friday night and you are not between your home and the range (and there is not a dead deer on the trunk of your car) then the gun had better be very well concealed.

I live upstate. Just because there are fewer hassles I make sure I conceal well. I carry a Glock 23 in a speed scabbard in the cooler weather, but I carry a S & W 640 Pro in warm weather as it prints far less (not at all) under a un-tucked camp shirt.

My Glock 27 (on the ankle) is all season. (I carry both).

In NYS, "carry" is still the exception and there are millions of anti-gun liberals (my entire family) out there. Mean while I visit my family (armed) all the time (they're dangerous) and no one has ever noticed the weapons. In NY State (and around my relatives) that should be your goal.
