NYSP Model 681

Hello and welcome to the forum!
That is a sought after piece that exists in only limited numbers; however, someone, on the forum, may have one they would part with. You could try posting in the "Wanted" sub-forum here.

ETA: According to the Standard Catalog of SW #4, only about 500 NYSP 681's were produced. Good luck, in your hunt!

Good luck. Will probably be hard to find that particular 681 at anything close to a reasonable price (if there are any even left out there). Most pawnshops and gunshops in my area have very few vintage Smith revolvers for sale lately and tell me that people are hanging on to them.

The 681 in general is not an easy thing to find. I imagine the 686 outsold it by an exponential factor.

As said,, they are out there. Consider the finite number and that most were sold initially, many years ago.
I had two at one time. Both came from a friend who was downsizing. He had bought both at a local show . One early (with right-side logo) and a later one. Only have one NYSP now,,,

The 681's are not rare but still uncommon. Finding a really nice one in the wild, even more uncommon. Probably best chance will be here on the forum. A WTB ad will help. Best of luck!

If I recall correctly, I believe the 681 was the last issue NYSP revolver before going to glocks
As mentioned a pretty small number of guns. I don't recall if when the transition occurred if officers were allowed to buy the guns from the state, or if they were surplused through a distributor.
I do know one used NYSP revolver ( might have been a 28 ) ended up used in a crime, after which NYSP declared all guns surplus to the agency were to be either transferred to other agencies or destroyed.
