Odd J-Frame

As a lover of all j-frames I thought I had owned all the models but found one today that proved me wrong. It is a 642-2 that is black, ported and nra engraved. It even has different grips than any I have seen. No box so I would really like any info anyone might have on this gun. Thanks

That IS interesting. Do you have (Or have you seen) the box to give us the SKU number? This would help.

No they didn’t have the box. It may be just my area but I have never seen one before.

There was a limited run of model 442s with compensated barrels. This one was likely a prize at a "Friends of NRA" event or something similar.

- S&W announced this model in June 2008 as the PowerPort Pro Series. Pro Series is an intermediate product between the regular production and the Performance Center guns. These powerport models were produced from late 2008 & 2010 only. Has a black finish over stainless steel. PC model numbers begin with17XXXX and had night sights and tuned triggers. All Powerport models were discontinued in 2012.

- Not positive but I believe these were donated by S&W for the NRA dinner drawings

- I got mine in 2016 at a pawn shop for $390 It came with Uncle Mike grips.
