Model 43, S/N 72xxx, 3.5" barrel and a steel cylinder. S/N puts it about 1960 but a steel cylinder?? I can't imagine a reason for replacing the alloy one. I haven't been able to convince the owner to letter the revolver.

Any ideas??

A letter may not help with the cylinder question. It's not a 22 WRM is it? They had steel cylinders. More likely Cylinder was changed than came from factory that way.

This was after the era of SN stamped cylinders, so as Jim mentioned there would be no way to confirm this is original. A factory letter would be unlikely to state "we messed up and put a model 34 cylinder on your model 43" ;).
