Just scored this piece for quite a low price.
I'm a bit baffled though because:
1. it doesn't look like an HB but its not tapered either
2. 10-5 should still have a trigger guard screw
3. It seems to be square butt.

What do you guys think?

Edit:
Should have used to search function first.
It seems that its the normal barrel (not heavy) with square butt which was/is quite commong in Europe/Asia on the 10-5.

The barrel looks like the HB, to me. The pencil barrels are much thinner and tapered than the barrel in the pic.......

Probably one of the in-between barrels made for Australian or Turkish police. If it's the true heavy barrel, those were more common, probably. But the recent sales by police in those countries put a lot of their guns on the market in the USA. Don't know about in Austria.

What brands of .38 ammo are sold in Vienna? Can you own hollowpoint bullets? Get a license to carry a handgun?
What about legal self defense shootings? I've read that many Euro countries don't allow self defense! Same for Australia, except for police, and it's a very tough thing to achieve in the UK.

Do Viennese really float whipped cream atop coffee? Is there a particular name for coffee served that way?

Reliable source and SCSW says:
Model 10-5, 3" tapered barrel for French Police, D828xxx range

What brands of .38 ammo are sold in Vienna?
- The majority are from Magtech and Geco

Can you own hollowpoint bullets?
- Only if you are in a gun/shooting club and/or a hunter.

Get a license to carry a handgun?
- Licence to own is quite easy, licence to carry impossible. Not even the police are allowed to carry off-duty.

What about legal self defense shootings?
- You can shoot if someone breaks into your home but no matter what happens you are always in a disadvantage in court.

- Here ya go my friend, haha! Coffee in Austria : Austrian & Vienna Cafe Culture

Price was actually below average. The majority of the S&W revolvers here are a lot cheaper than in the US.

Thanks! Quite interesting.

Can a hunter carry a handgun then, maybe to finish off game? You said that a hunter can own hollowpoint bullets, so that infers they can carry a handgun even if no one else can.

I think they'd arm off-duty police in this age of terrorism, but that's the anti-gun mentality in action.

Why are good revolvers so cheap? Is there just an auto-pistol mentality among most gun owners?

The grips/stocks look like wooden versions of the old Rogers plastic sort. Are they by Sile? Does anyone here recognize them?

That gun would probably sell in the USA for about twice the Austrian cost. Maybe more.

Does this gun have any proof marks or official stamps that'd indicate where it was originally sold or issued to police?

If it's all as it should be, correct cylinder timing, etc., you got a heck of a good deal. Congratulations. And congratulations on your superb English!

What are the primary police pistols? One would guess Glock, because it's made there, but that might be an over presumption.

Great deal on a good looking gun. I just picked up a model 10-6 hub for 350 here in the states and thought it was a fair deal
