Odessa Looted!

I found a couple of goodies at the Odessa, TX, show this past weekend. The K 30 is a 5 screw and dates from 1950. It ahs some issues, both appearane and mechanical, and will go to Chicoine for his expert attention.

The rifle is a Ross M 1910 in 280 Ross. Looks very good for being at least 75 years old and maybe even 100. Don 't know whether I'll ever shoot it; ammo is almost nonexistant, and there's always the question of whether you'll get the bolt back in your face when you pull the trigger. But it sure is pretty.

Dang. Robbed in my own back yard. Well, I guess that's what I get for not going to the show. Those are some nice pick-ups, especially the Ross.

I've went to gun shows pretty regular for well over 30 years. I've yet to see a Ross in person. Great snag!!!

Used to have a Ross in .303. Was a sporterized military older model, I believe the 1905. Supposedly it was the safer one. Still, the first few shots with it were a bit hairy. The bore was terrible and it went down the road at some point.

Yes, the Model 1905, military Mk II, had a bolt that could not be assembled incorrectly, so it would ALWAYS lock when pushed home.

Straight pulls take some getting used to. My first was a Steyr M 95 in 8X50 R. I loaded for it, as ammo was impossible to come by. All is well until you have it at your shoulder and are squeezing the trigger. Then the thought creeps into your brain: "Just what the...is holding this contraption shut". Leads to a grand flinch.

I can't hit anything with my two Rosses: a Mk II and Mk II, either. I don't have good luck with the 303 British; I have a MLE MkI* and a Mk III*, and can't hit anything with them, despite at least one of the Rosses and the Mk III* having perfect bores.
