Oh please, not again

The back story: I am a member of a military veterans group. I've held the leadership office in the local, and state level. While in the leadership office at the local level I officiated at a major function which stands to reason. While attending and officiating at this function I bought the last of the 50/50 tickets. There were several drawings leading up to the final where the money would be split between the winner and the local chapter. I didn't pull the winning ticket, but when the number was called out nobody started screaming as was normal. Finally, I took a look at my tickets, Son of a Gun, I had the winning ticket.

Fast forward to this last Tuesday and again I am the leader of a local chapter of an origination, this being the 12/6 chapter of Guns Save Life. One of the ways of making money for the local chapter is to have a drawing for a gun which is held by a local FFL dealership until after the drawing. The drawing for the month of October was for a Beretta Model 84, now known as a Cheetah. I bought the last 10 tickets to go into the spinning barrel.

Oh please, not again: If you need to be told; YES, I won the drawing. I put $40.00 in the bin and three days after filling out the 4473 was able to pick up the pistol. I took it out to function test today and it worked so well I fired three more rounds than I'd planned on.

I'd be pleased to hear from you if you have any bad words for this model pistol. Or, if you happen to know of any faults associated with them.

I have an 84. Always wanted one as I have a bunch of 380 ammo and several Beretta 92 models. Just always wanted the little brother. Got a really nice one at a local auction for a good price. (NOT 40.00 that's for sure) I really like it. Shot about 100 rds through it. Shot great, sights were dead on. Probably won't carry it because it's about the same size, maybe a bit wider than the 9mm I carry. But still like it a lot.

Now for the bad part. Man, the slide is really stiff. I'm about 70 and my hand are a bit stiff, but I dont have a problem with any other guns. There is not much to get any purchase on. Other than that its fine.
Now if you have one of the models with the tip up barrel, that takes care of the problem. Unfortunately that model seems to be at least a few hundred more when I see them for sale.
FYI- I guess Beretta just came out with a new model of the 84 called the 80x, I think. Has some refinements, I guess. Congrats on the gun.

Last gun I won was a Glock 44 at Ducks Unlimited. Meh. Gave it to my son before I left the event. Got enough .22 handguns-certainly didn't need another

You won’t hear a bad word from me about the Beretta Model 84. I love mine.

I’m not that keen on the newest version with the rail, but that’s just me.

I took my daughter-in-law shooting last week. She is an Air Force veteran and had qualified on the M9, but hadn’t shot in a while. Since she is the mother of my tiny boss I was glad to help when she asked about refreshing her skills.

We started with a Model 87 - which is a .22 of course. She liked it but was ho-hum on it. Then she tried the .380 Model 84 and it was love at first shot.

She had never fired a revolver, so she tried some .38s in one of my Model 19s. She said: That’s nice, do you have more .380 ammo?

I carry my 84 a lot. I also have the single stack Model 85, but it doesn’t have the same charm as the 84.

Congrats on a fine gun.

Years ago I purchased a model 87 for my wife with the intention of getting her an 85 as well so the two would have the same ergo's and she could practice with the .22 model 87. She never took to it so I sold it. I always liked the model 85 better than the 84 because the 84 is so thick.
Although I do like the guns, they are large for caliber. Many 9mm pistols are similar size with more power and less expensive ammo that is easier to obtain. The new tip up barrel Beretta 80X is pretty cool but very large as well.

I've owned an 84 in the past, currently own a 85 which is the single stack version. Good, well made guns. Can't fault them. Shoot well, function perfectly. But it just doesn't excite me.

I have an original 84 that was an Israeli police surplus gun. It shows a little cosmetic wear but mechanically it’s a tank. As to how I feel about it, it’s my favorite 380 and one I carry in a Fanny pack when traveling. It fits my hands perfectly and is a pleasure to shoot. I like the high capacity and don’t mind the weight. Weight helps dampen recoil and I’m sensitive to recoil due to arthritis.

We had one as a range gun when I was stationed in Germany. It shot well and was easy for folks with smaller hands to grip comfortably. It ran fine with MAG-TECH .380 ball ammo.

I have an 85. Always wanted one and finally got it. It’s a great gun, shoots great and I love the looks. But it is a bear for me to rack! Not much to grab on to. I’ll stick with my Makarovs.

I have a Model 81, a Model 84 and a Model 80X.

The Model 84 is a great bang for the buck right now and will appreciate in value.

Compared to the current 80X the double action trigger on the Model 84 isn’t nearly as light or as smooth. However, unlike the 80X, it can be carried cocked and locked and utilize the very good single action trigger.

Both are very reliable and the open slide design in general usually produces very good reliability.

I am a huge fan of Beretta pistols, so no gripes from me. I own 5-6 of them, all 9mm & all 92FS models of varying types. All run perfectly, all are superbly accurate using PMC FMJ ammo.

I've never owned a Cheetah nor a .380acp for that matter. But yours IS a Beretta & it should exceed your expectations, IMO.

Can you go with me when I buy my next lottery ticket???? :D

There're some aftermarket options for those with slide racking issues.

These are for .22 pistols, but it'll give an idea of what they look like.

Charging Handles for Rimfire Pistols from TANDEMKROSS

Web sites like Brian Enos offers options as well, IIRC?

Hopes this helps some folks.

I'll be happy too, but you must remember, we have to buy the tickets just before they close the sale of 'em. We want the last three or four tickets sold.

And remember you'll be hanging out with a Coastie not one of Uncle Sams M. C. :D
