I'm going to disassemble my Ruger 22/45 Mk III today and clean it. The minimum I'm going to need is moral support

Reading the manual sheds a lot of light on the subject but also makes you even more nervous. So many warnings and cautions in there it darn near paralyzes you with fear.

I have all the faith in the world in you. Really.

Just remember that you can Google for instructions and come up with help if necessary!

I tried to do that a couple weeks ago. After more than a few skinned knuckles and a lot of cursing, I decided I was perfectly OK leaving the receiver and frame mated and just cleaning the bolt and barrel and whatever I could reach.

I've never had to break down a 22/45, but I used to get the MKIs and MKIIs handed to me in bags all the time. There was a point where it was best to turn the gun upside down, it would then go together real easy.

Yep - if not done regularly I used to forget the "hold it upside down" caveat and curse Bill Ruger until I finally remembered it . . .

Some guns like this are what cans of "Gunscrubber" is made for.

Ridiculous. All you have to do is hold the gun at 43 degrees from horizontal while snapping the thingie into place. Or is it 46 degrees? It has been a while since I've done it.

For years I have heard how tough the Ruger semi-auto rimfires are to re-assemble, and have never seen what the real issue is. Sure it isn't as easy as changing a light bulb, but it isn't much more difficult. All one needs to do is pay attention and make sure the hammer strut lines up with the mainspring and they go right back together. I think their reputation is much worse than the reality of the process.

Well, I'm all puffed up and struttin around. I took it apart and cleaned it and got it back together on the first try.

Wonder if I did it right?

Maybe I should go shoot it to make sure
