In Oklahoma, if you qualify with a semi-auto, you can carry anything. If you qualify with a revolver, you can only carry a revolver or a derringer. I've been looking for caliber restrictions, and can find nothing except some instructors who recommend nothing larger than a .45. My wife is taking the class this weekend, and will likely carry a revolver. However, I'd like her to take the test with a semi-auto so that she has the ability to carry whatever she wants later on. The only semi-auto I have that she shoots comfortably is my P-22. So, after all that, the question is, can you take the Oklahoma test with a .22lr?

Yes, a .22 semi-auto is fine and then you can carry anything or any caliber. Don't take a revolver because you want to always keep your options open in the future and the shooting part of the test is really easy. We were shooting IPSC cardboard humanoid targets at 15 feet.

Yep. Definitely take the 22LR to class so you can carry an auto or wheelgun in the future. And it's actually the law that you can't carry anything larger than a .45 cal. Title 21 OS 1290.6

Thanks, guys. I was pretty sure that was the case. I need to get her to the range this week just to make sure she doesn't embarrass me.

OK restriction is less than 16" in length and no larger than .45 for concealed carry.

Let's face it, a .22 semi-auto is the ideal gun for the shooting part of the course. It is just a check to see if you can load and fire the gun safely, not a markmanship test.

Although many students obsess about the firing part, the section on the laws is where the energy needs to be applied.
I recommend everybody who carries in OK read the entire SDA after you take the class, and re-read the parts on off limits and carry restrictions every year.
Nothing irritates me more than getting a former student calling and saying something like "Well, this guy I was talking to says that the law is....(something stupid)."
Please READ the law.
