opening day for Oktoberfest is tomorrow. one of the many reasons I was glad to be stationed in West Germany for 3 years (1970 - 1973). the best bier in the world and some really good food to go with it.

My son was in Germany (Army, first Saddam War) and he just loved Oktoberfest. That and every town had their own breweries.

To this day he will not drink the weak American beer. (he has a different name for it but I cannot use it here!):D

Would his description possibly relate to the claimed lab report: "Your Horse has diabetes."

Not to spoil anyone’s fun, but a suggestion from a former native:

Most of the “Oktoberfest” beer is brewed to be consumed about as quickly as it is ejected at the opposite end, and at about the same quality level. ;)

These days, unless you like drunk British, Japanese, and American tourists, stay away from the Oktoberfest and find yourself a nice Biergarten in one of München‘s suburbs or even better, one of the smaller towns where the locals hang out. The beer will be a lot better, and so will be the food.

Don't know what it's like today, but when I went to it, many moons ago, it was incredible! Each brewery has a tent, tents that hold 3000 plus Volks. At one end is the cooking area. Whole beefs roasting on giant spits, hundreds of chickens spinning till golden brown. On a central stage, an oom pah band. Not to mention all those beautiful German gals haulind 8 liters of Bier at a time. A perfect day.

My oldest son found the love of his life while stationed in Germany (US Army 1st Armor Div. Second Saddam War 2004). After She immigrated to the US people would ask my D-I-L, what was her favorite American Beer?
Without a hesitation she'd reply NATTY LIGHT! People were aghast, and ask why! She would respond that after 10 or 12 Natty Lights, she didn't feel full, but after 10 or 12 German Biers, she felt full! I'm thinking after 10 or 12 German Biers, I would feel a COMA!
