I was wondering if anyone could tell me some of the dates when these old ammunition boxes were produced.

Hi David:

I don't claim to be an ammo expert but I do seem to have a lot of the old stuff laying around the shack here. I'll give you my nickel opinion.

1. Remington/Dupont .38 S&W is probably late 1940s to early 1950s.
2. Remington .38 Super is 1960s.
3. Winchester .38 Special is pre-war, ie, late 1930s.
4. Western .38 Short Colt is pre-war or just possibly early post-war. (Same bullseye design was used on Western .22 LR ammo sold to US Government during WW2.)
5. Super-Vel .357 mag. 1960s.

Hope that helps you. All good stuff.

Regards,
Charlie Flick

I am not an expert either. One interesting fact I've picked up here on the Forum is that the child warning was mandated in 1962. Obviously, a box without the warning is pre-'62, and one with it is post-'62

I was buying .41 magnums in the Reminton boxes in the 60's 70's still using them today.

Supervels in the 70's for sure.
