Old Eye Help

I used to have one of those things that stick on your glasses with a suction cup and was adjustable. Think it was made by Merit.
I lost mine and need to get another.

What do you guys recommend?

A pair of professionally made shooting glasses might be a better solution. I may have to try it. I have been getting along with a Merit device for years now but I do get sick and tired of the silly thing falling off my glasses.

They are still around. If you want to use that type of device, I don't know of anything better. Brownell's sells them, along with the replacement suction cups, and they still work as good as ever. Might as well buy another suction cup when you order. Mine have always dried out and gotten too stiff to work properly as soon as I started using them. I have heard a solution is to keep a spare in a little jar of distilled water, but I have yet to try that. Whatever they use for the material for the suction cup would seem it could be improved.

You can make you own. I use a piece of electrical tape with the right sized needle hole. I have had to change the size of the hole over the years to match my changing eye. I used to use the small sized round stickers you could get a Office Depot but cant find them anymore. Looking to get a large sized paper punch to make round patches of tape. I am right eyed and stick the aperture on the top left side of the lense. I just tip my head a little to line up and shoot.

Lyman has a stick on unit but it is not adjustable. Might work for you.

I asked my eye doctor to make me a set of glasses for pistol shooting. He did, but not being a shooter, they focused neither on the target nor on the sights. I got a couple of stick-on clear plastic lenses in various diopters, and they worked fine.

If your eye doc (I am) is a shooter (I am), take one of your pistols with you. ASK him first!

A quick "trial lens" demo, will get you what you want.

+0.50 to +0.75 over your distance prescription, usually clears the front sight adequately, without terribly blurring the target.

If you don't wear glasses, the lowest power, usually available, in OTC readers, is + 1.00. Try that, or you might be lucky and find a slightly lower power.

Can't remember where I got them, but the brand name is OPTX20/20. Google them and see what you get.

My eye Doc did a RX for me. Left eye is set for infinity -to see the target clearly- right eye set for 30 inches -to see the front sight. I had them made by an on line company -Zenni optical. They were afraid to make them because the RX was so strange and they called me to make sure there was no mistake. I like them and they work very well, but I need to wear them for a few minutes to adjust to them, after that they feel normal.
