I just got my Alien Gear hybrid holster, had my Old Faithful for a week.
First, some intangibles..
Cost is near the same, ONLY if you get the self install kit from OF.
I bought brown leather from AG and two kydex shells.
I bought black leather from OF and only an SD40VE shell.
I have an MP40c and SD40VE I plan to carry, primarily the MP though (Easier to conceal...and quite honestly, I shoot it better)

They are nearly identical, and as far as the naked eye can see....they pretty much are. You can tell, both by the business address the materials are cut by the same company.
Is paying OF $10 more for a holster you have to assemble yourself worth it? IMO...no. I did get a 15% off online coupon I used, so that drew the price more in line with each other...but the AG came to me fully assembled.

Now, the other argument can be made. What if you want to change ride or cant, or even space out or tighten up the kydex shell. At that point, it's moot.

As the pictures show, a few things I wanted to point out. The black leather on the OF seems a little softer/more supple than the brown of the AG.

The Kydex shell for the AG is better than that of the OF. Notice the indentation at the trigger gaurd on the OF. Now, a plus is it'll hold the gun tighter. But I use the screws for that...

Lastly, I like the flat finish of the AG belt clips better than the shiny finish on the OF.

So...I'll be using the black OF leather, the AG 40c kydex and AG clips for my EDC. When I feel like carrying the 40VE...use the other holster. Let me know if you have any questions or pictures you'd like taken.

Nice preliminary review. I'm sure the leather of both will soften over time and use.

I'm currently wearing an Old Faithful holster. It's more comfortable today than it was last week, but I still don't find it comfortable.

I'm curious to hear what you have to say after wearing it for a while.

I am very happy with my Alien Gear holster.(s) Actually one complete holster and 2 additional shells so I can swap out between my Shield, S&W 39-2 and XDm 45 3.8".

Nothing wrong with them for that price. I like the Firearmholsters.com even better for a few dollars more.

i wore mine(old faithful owb, 40c) for about 3-4 months before the warmer months had me pocket carrying. i liked mine, the leather softened up and i think i adjusted the tension 5 or 6 times over the first few weeks. i think had gotten the iwb instead i may have tried to carry in it the whole summer as it would conceal better and be easier to remove from the belt(which is the main reason i kept the pocket holster for this winter). i am buying a shield tomorrow and think i'll get an Alien Gear IWB for it...

You should now have 3 interchangeable shells - two being the same - as I believe they use the same hole pattern.

I'm really glad to see someone with both and particularly the Black OF and tan AG - only cause mine is the Black AG.

Mine is getting better every day. Wore it again today to the movies - still very comfy.

I changed the cant only slightly by raising the front belt hook to drop the holster. I like it to ride deeper in my pants than exposing too much gun. It was subtle.

What I don't understand is how the OF can think they can charge $30.00 to assemble their holster. Just can't see 60 bucks for that holster when AG and others are less money...and AG is an exact copy (or the other way around).

I really think if I had another gun and wanted to carry with the AG I would buy a complete holster rather than changing the shell. They just aren't that expensive for the possibility of losing parts, re-shaping the leather from a different gun, etc. My second gun will likely be a Ruger SP101 - quite a bit different than the M&P .40.

The only difference I can identify is the price, assembly and logo. Other than that they seem identical.

I am currently wearing my AG in hopes it will break in soon but have to say it's not as comfortable (at least in the beginning) as my Cross Breed was that I use for my Ruger.

Two things sold me on these particular hybrids.
Ability to change shells and ability to tighten or loosen the draw.
I also picked up a pair of bull hide belts, zombie style from daltech force.

I'm a big fella, so give me a few weeks of everyday wear to see how they feel

My 40c fits the SD40VE shell. However....it may or may not be as snug as you'd like.
I wouldn't have any qualms wearing the SD shell with my 40c if I planned on carrying my SD more, but the opposite.
I plan on EDC my 40c.

The guns are very similar in that most holsters will probably work for one or the other. 100% your call, however...

The shell from AG fits my SD better than that of the OF in my opinion, not as much trigger guard drag.

If you had not noticed, they are the same company, just using a different name. Easily verified by looking at their email's header information since they did not set up a different email server for their AG domain.

That could mean they are just using the same hosting service provider...that being said, if they are not the same company (and I'm not saying you're wrong...) it's clear they are related somehow.

I'm not smart enough to know if this verifies the same business or just both using gmail accounts.

But I did go back and re-read my correspondence with the two and noticed OF offers a 10% discount for Military ID and 20% if active duty.

You can adjust that portion of the O.F. by heating the trigger guard area with a Hair Dryer and reshaping it by hand (wearing an oven mitt). Good Kydex can withstand several complete reshaping sessions. ;)

I also prefer CB to either O.F. or A.G..
Got mine via the Crossbreed Seconds website. No waiting for a build and can't spot the 'blemishes'.

I did a little reshaping of a Blade-Tech by boiling it in water then shape it and run it under cold water to set. It worked ok but the part I wanted to reshape was pretty heavily reinforced - the top area of the paddle. I wanted it flatter so while wearing it would pull into my body more and reposition the grip toward by hip.

I know this thread is from a couple of months ago but I was wondering, now that you guys have been wearing the OF and AG holsters for a while how do you like them? Do you have a preference?

For my body type (6'0", 250 lbs.) I just couldn't get it comfortable.
I tried from 3 to almost 6 O' Clock, different heights and cants...just isn't comfortable for my use on my 40c.

I went with a Foxx and haven't looked back.
I sold my AG to a member here, he likes it. And I kept my OF as a backup just in case.
I wear my Foxx daily, on the bike...and in the car, I usually don't know it's there.

I have an AG and just can't get comfortable with it. I think it is more the two clip style that is my problem. When I wear it from 3-4 o'clock, the gun is obvious under a t shirt or polo. The only way I can hide it is at 5 o'clock. The problem there is the extra bulk doesn't allow me to sit at all. I am 6'1" with an average build, about 190lbs. I have tried all of the cant and height adjustments, but it just doesn't work for me. I went to a High Noon Bare Asset. I works great at 4-5 o'clock.

I looked at the Foxx web site. They have a lot of models. Which one did you get?

I have a little foxx. Will be ordering another holster probably next paycheck, and some clips and magazine holster also. My chubby upper recommends Foxx lol
