I got a box o junk from a friend,(he got it at a yard sale of an estate sale) in it were some 357 Mag . loads, empty cases and a few packs of Winchester primers. I put one in a case and it fired, my question is ... are they all ok to reload, or did I grab a good one??

I also have acquired primers from estate/yard sales. Some of the boxes looked like they had gone thru a flood. When used to reload, they ALL went bang.
Use only in target/plinking ammo.

Old Primers

Inherited several boxes of old (50+ years) winchester large pistol primers. Some have oxidation on the finish and look dark but fire just fine.

They are very likely safe to use. I would load up a small test group of about 20 and see how they work and go from there.

I am currently loading powder that says 12.99 on the sales tag and primers that are at least five years old.:)

I've used 40+ year old Primers that my Dad had and they worked just fine. I can not remember EVER having a FTF with ANY brand or ANY age primer.

While we are at it, I have also used 40+ year old Powder and that was fine too! I suppose the key is just to make sure they are kept cool & dry.

For loaded ammo i have 1937 loaded 8mm ammo that still shoot a great.
My own 1976 reloads shoot like I just reloaded them.

I have new older primers that still are good today.

I won a box of components in an auction and there were several boxes of CCI primers in white and red boxes. I think they are from the early 70's, I've been using them all year and all fire just fine. (CCI-500 and CCI-550)
