from the very depths of my SIL's storage chambers, an old falling block single shot Remmie 22LR...

Took it in to my local 'smith, he was going to do resuscitation on it...but alas!.....too far gone is his final diagnosis.

Bad stock, missing thumb cocking pin, barrel pitting (extensive but light and probably buffable) and now the final blow: chip in wall of firing chamber.

Relining etc will be too expensive for this non-collectible.

So now what?

Sounds like a wall hanger to me. I would hate to see an old rifle like that thrown away.

I am reminded what a old gunsmith friend of mine said: You know, people will throw out a old refrigrater, tv set or stove when they are wore out, but they will never throw a gun away!

If you have a machinist friend the chamber could be reamed to .3125 and a new one turned up and bored to where a .22 will fit snugly and if needed an extractor slot filed or milled in and the replacement pressed in and then polished with emery cloth. It seems like a few years ago I read maybe in Brownells gunsmith kinks that you could use a chevvy pushrod for a liner and that the I.D. of the rod was right for a .22 and then just ream tofit the o.d. of the pushrod. Just a thought. Jeff

It was made by man, it can be fixed by man. You know you want to, it's only money.
