I'm still hurting from firing those cartridges back in 1977, when I purchased a used S&W 6-1/2" nickel-plated 29-2 that had been made in 1968.
I was in Panama at the time, and purchased the gun from a Marine Lieutenant Colonel for $300, complete with wooden presentation case. I still have that gun and case, with accessories.
But in Panama, the Winchester Super-X loads were all I could find.
Me-OW those hurt to fire them!
A little later, I was casting my own lead 240 gr. semiwadcutters from salvaged range lead, propelled by a healthy charge of 2400.
Much easier to shoot, since lead bullets produce less friction than jacketed bullets, and therefore less recoil.
But I fondly recall those old Winchester yellow box Super-X cartridges. They were the first .44 Magnum cartridges I ever fired and it left quite an impression!
