Old Time Radio Programs

Nice list, and Gunsmoke was on the radio years before it was on TV. Id have loved to have listened to those.

PS, on Nr 19--I wonder if you meant: Blackhawk? I loved the comic book--both series.

Edit again, I see several above beat me on mentioning Gunsmoke.

BTW, some of the names the Germans gave to Gunsmoke are: Smoking Colts (or and) Rauchen von der Pistolen.

Hi:
You might be correct. The program was about several individuals from different countries that were pilots and also crime fighters.

Listening to Sirius Radio Classics as I type. Find it less aggravating than talk radio on long trips.

Or we both may be right? The: Blackhawks I was thinking of were these from the serial w/ Kirk Alyn--of the Superman serials fame:

but they actually got started as a group fighting the Germans in WWII. Their commander was a Polish Air Force fighter pilot who when thr Germans invaded Poland, fought his way through them and somehow made his wat to England--with other like-minded pilots from other Countries invaded by the Germans--and free-lancers who wanted to fight the Germans--kinda like a small version of the Flying Tigers-kinda thing.

After the war, they did fight crime.

Yeah Ringo there was. The full quote should be: "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!" Cue manic laughter.

Id thought so. I remember Cpl Klinger in an episode of M*A*S*H, impersonating the character. I know there was a feature length movie about the time the Serials aired..

I think The Phantom was also on the radio? I know there were feature length movies made about the time the Serials ran, and I liked the newer made movie with Billy Zane:

Loved the "twins" he used:

The Lone ranger

Don't forget The Green Hornets' faithful Filipino valet "Kato".

No one has mentioned "Superman" (WXYZ Detroit)

FINALY, TOO YOUNG

To remember watching the radio. I can recall staying up listening to A.S. on the headphones, so as not to disturb Mom & Dad. What was her sign off line again?

Radios

Old time radio shows used to come through works of art too. None of this black plastic stuff then.

We didn't have anything this fancy but we did have a standup Zenith radio and an Emerson table version that served us well for years of radio enjoyment till our parents made us go to bed for the night. You got to use your imagination as you listened to your favorite shows back then. Still say bring this back and a cardboard box for a kid to use his imagination to play with and we would be a darn sight better off than now! My take on all this! Popper

If they brought back radio shows akin to the originals? I would not see more than a few hrs of tv a week.

Quit your dang lying Ringo! I'd bet money you would be like me and not waste time turning the dang TV on except to watch maybe Hee Haw an exception, on RFD on the weekends. Later Bro! Popper!

Exactly. I remember my father tuning in the Radio mystery theater hosted by EG Marshal on the living room Telefunken Radio.
