old westerns question

We need feralmerril to tell us about the Honeymoon Trail. Us NM folks know a little bit about it, but I'm betting he knows more! He knows about the Spanish Trail, he has to know about the Honeymoon Trail!

In the OP a gripe was made about guys in Westerns moving their rifles from their shoulders to lever a new round. Actually the lever guns could be quite stiff and lockup was pretty tight.
I've handled some vintage '92s and I had to lower them to rack them.

Don't confused by Hollywood or Cowboy Action guns of today with the stuff from the 1880s or 1890s.

I doubt people in the 1890s ever much envisioned slamming them like a machine gun such The Rifleman TV show.

How odd is that! My wife theresa wanted to go near it tomorrow on a kind of mineing mission. There is a old mica or eisenglass mine we came across the last time we were in that area. It`s glass like they used in oven doors and there is a large pit of it that other people were just picking it off the ground. It comes in layered slabs perfectly flat. Someone told me you can see the pit shine from airliners. We picked up a bucket or so of it last year. She wants to get some more to decorate in the back yard. The area starts south east of st george below sand hollow and runs into arizona. We have rode the general area about 3 times. Its very sandy and hot barren rough desert. The trail starts roughly near these pictures at sand hollow a popular area for atvs.

This is the remains of old fort pierce. It is 11 miles SE of st george, a half mile north of the arizona border and is square on the honneymoon trail. Its about 5 miles east of the mine I spoke of.
