Older 38 Special

My father bought a SW 28 Special, 6 inch bbl. has bone grips and in very good condition. He purchased the revolver in 1943 from a guy being drafted. I wonder how much it might be worth today.

Since he bought it used, when he bought the gun really does not help us here at all. Assuming it's a .38 Special, depending on model, year, rarity, originality and condition the value could still vary by several hundred dollars. At a minimum we'd need the serial and some decent photos.

No offense meant by any of us. You have to remember that Smith & Wesson revolver manufacturing spans three centuries. Many different models were chambered for .38 Special. So a very detailed description, or better still pictures, are a must.
