I have an older Mod 41 (Ser. No. A138xxx, circa 1971 I think) and I am getting back into Bullseye/Gallery shooting after 30 year layoff. I would like to get a Red Dot sight and would like to know if there are adapters to accommodate the older barrel (not drilled and tapped).
Thanks for the info.

I too have an older Model 41 (133xxx) and am getting back to bullseye shooting after many years off. Clark custom guns out of Louisiana fabricates their own ribbed barrels specifically for mounting optics. They are a bit pricey but out of stock for the one I want. I called them last week and was told they are working to restock now. End of year inventory taxes I expect. Check out their website. Clark Custom Guns, Inc. Home Page

I sent my 41 barrel back to S&W to have the scope mount holes drilled. My 41 works perfect, but is in user, not collectable status.

I also have an older Model 41. Not wanting to drill & tap my 7 3/8" I "justified" the purchase of a new 5 1/2" barrel. It came drilled & tapped and now wears an Ultradot.

I did what Kroger did but in reverse. Had a very nice lazy ampersand 5 1/2" that I didn't want to mess up so I bought a lightly used 7" and put a Docter Optic on it. BoJest, another barrel is the way to go.
