Older S&W long guns

I have a 916A. My father-inlaw gave it to me. I think he paid $100 for it and a older remington 22. I have found out that there are alot of problems with this shotgun. I do not shoot it very often(only one outting now that I think about it) but it seemed to shoot very well. It has the 18.5" barrel, a 5 shot tube and had a good spread pattern to it. Is there a place where you can put the serial number in and find out history of the gun?

My model 1000 12ga now sits in my bedroom loaded with 00 buck. It served me through almost 4 decades of bird and rabbit hunting with never a ftf or feed problem. After removing the restriction pin the magazine now holds 3 shells instead of 2. I guess I got a good one, It outlasted my knees!

smith and wesson has good taste if they had husqvarna making their rifles back in the 60s and 70s.

I bought a 1000P (1st couple of year production of the 3000 was marked 1000P) back in the 70's. Used it for everything for a number of years and never had any issues with it.
