Back around 1987, S&W was working on a pistol for Olympic Rapid Fire. Weird gun, looked like a stapler...but it had a recoil system intended to eliminate muzzle flip.

If S&W were to finish development of a .22LR version, they might have something for American shooters to use in the Olympic Games. Which would be good publicity.

There is no longer any market

6 years or so ago the olympic commitee changed the rules to allow poorer countries to compete so only one type of psitol is allowed in the 3 events (rapid, free, and pistol) Walther introduced a new pistol to replace the GSP and OSP while the free pistols are now gone.

There is only one ype of pistol for all three events and the market is quite locked up by the european makers Hammerilli/sig, & walther
